Why do the underarms of white shirts turn yellow after time?

The majority of my shirts do that. I thought it was my old deodorant but I changed and it still happens. And I know other people who don’t have this problem. What is the cause and is there any way to avoid it?

It’s sweat, happens to me all the time. Sucks when you have a white uniform lol
Just soak it in bleach for a few minutes before washing that’s what I do and the stains come right out.
    Good luck. :)

The underarms are built with a different material that turns yellow after time.

  4. AlexLove says:

    It’s caused by sweat.
    Try bleaching them?

  5. Haley :) says:

its because when u sweat, your body oils come out, too, and over time they turn the color of your shirt.

Sweat stains your clothes. Maybe they don’t wear their white shirts as much as you wear yours. There isn’t a good way to avoid it.

uhm. you must be using bleachwhen washing your white shirts. this causes the yellow stains. instead of using bleach, try soaking your clothes in the warm soapy water in the machine before starting the cycle. or if ther’s a cycle with a soak, then do that.

    U sweat alot!

  21. alwaysandforevermyself says:

It is from the deodorant, doesn’t matter what kind you use, they all do it! Are you using bleach in your whites?

    sweat! duh

  23. 6feetunder says:

Sweat carries a chemical that the body produces but must let out when liquids mix and react in your body under heat.

Best way to avoid it is to stay in cool areas, avoid sweating. Bleaching your shirts won’t work, it will only make it worse.

You should do some research insead of asking this.

  28. Dj Conquest says:

because of oil and sweat from your armpit OR its the deodorant you are using. Most likely the first two. Want a solution? use a better deodorant and/or stop wearing white shirts.

Many deodorants dont stop all the sweat, some only stop a percentage or sweat. You may need to go to the doc and get a prescription strength anti perspirant like drysol.

  29. Katie! says:

    sweat, most likely.

it happened to me all the time.

try getting a better deodorant. i use “arm and hammer- in fresh powder” and it works wonders.

  30. Ellen says:

I totally have this problem. It’s the sweat; even after you wash it out it stains the garment permanently. I’ve heard bleach can get it out, but I haven’t tried it yet.

  31. Cowboy says:

From the toxins your body is releasing in your sweat.

  32. Suprises says:

Sweat discolours it, so washing the shirts more often or changing your washing powder may help slow the process. It’s not the deodorant, because it happens to my white bra straps over time too, very annoying!

  33. crystal_lipp says:

It is a mixture of sweat and deodorant. Plus if you bleach your whites, the sweat and deodorant mixed with it can cause it to turn yellow also! So, what I would suggest is a very good anti-perspirant along with spraying the armpits of your shirts with a stain fighter prior to washing!

    Good Luck!

  35. bella says:

the cause is because you sweat and when you sweat in a white shirt it would turn the white shirt yellow. you have not heard it happen to others because they mite not play as many sports as you or run around as much as you.

  36. pinkpolkadots6146 says:

Well, you see, when the body gets nervous or hot, it tries to cool itself down with a watery substance that leaks out of the body called sweat! If you are wearing a white shirt, that only defines the sweat!

  37. MISS-MARY says:

Sweat. . . sorry some people just are that way, may want to try a good antiperspirant,, deodorant they aren’t all that. Some are just one and not the other. Also, wash often when you are out and are sweating. . . it may prevent it and wash your clothes soon after wearing with bleach if they are white. It may be better to wear colored t-shirts and another shirt over it. Good luck. You aren’t alone. Miss mary
